- 1. Overall Curriculum Requirement
- A student must meet the current Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) or Manufacturing Engineering (MfgE) curriculum requirements in place at the time that he or she joins the program. However, for reasons including a need to observe new accreditation requirements and a credit change in a course offering, a certain program change may be applied to students accepted under a curriculum of a previous version.
- 2. General Education Requirements
- A student must also meet the University General Education requirements unless he/she provides proof (to Student Academic Affairs) of having fulfilled the general education program consisting of a minimum of 36 credits from an accredited institution.
The General Education requirements are outlined in the University Registration Schedule. A student who fulfills the IE&M or MfgE curriculum requirements would automatically meet Categories 1-3 and 9-12 of the Gen. Ed. requirements. For Categories 4-8, the following check lists can be used (the term Category and CODE correspond to the Gen. Ed. requirements printed in the University Registration Schedule):
Categories 4, 5, 7, 8:
| # cr.* | D or G?** | Course |
| ______ | ______ | i. 1 Humanity and Fine Art (CODE: A) course approved by the Gen. Ed. Committee |
| ______ | ______ | ii. ENGR 311 (CODE: A) or another Gen. Ed. course of Code A |
| ______ | ______ | iii. 1 Social & Behavioral Science (CODE: B) course approved by the Gen. Ed. Committee |
| ______ | ______ | iv. ENGR 312 (CODE: B, also counted as Global Perspective) or another Gen. Ed. course of Code B |
* The total of i+ii for CODE A MUST BE AT LEAST 6 CREDITS; the total of iii+iv for CODE B MUST BE AT LEAST 6 CREDITS
** AMONG the above 4 courses, 3 credits must also be approved for Cultural Diversity (CODE: D), AND 3 credits for Global Perspectives (CODE: G).
Category 6:
| # cr. | Course |
| ______ | A Wellness course (at least 2 credits) approved by the Gen. Ed. Committee (CODE: W) |
- 3. Technical Electives (5-6 credits)
- - The following courses are approved as technical electives for the IE&M program:
| IME 380 | IME 411 | IME 430 | IME 431 | IME 451 |
| IME 452¹ | IME 462 | IME 471 | IME 497 | |
| BUSN 360 | BUSN 431 | BUSN 440 | | |
| ENGR 320 | STAT 462 | | | |
Or other engineering or business courses approved by the adviser.
¹ Counted as a technical elective if this course is not counted as a required course.
- The following courses are approved as technical electives for the MfgE program:
| IME 450² | IME 451 | IME 452 | IME 455 | IME 456 |
| IME 470 | IME 472² | IME 485² | IME 497 | |
| ENGR 320 | STAT 462 | | | |
Or other engineering or business courses approved by the adviser.
² Counted as a technical elective for the Aero option of the MfgE program.
- Note: Enrollment of undergraduates in 600-700 level courses requires departmental approval.
- 4. IME/UNIV 199
- All freshmen or transfer students with fewer than 24 transfer credits are required to take IME/UNIV 199.
- 5. IME 111
- All freshmen are required to take IME 111. A transfer student's IME 111 requirement may be waived depending upon the student's previous coursework.
- 6. Co-op Education
- All students are encouraged to have a cooperative education. A co-op experience significantly enhances the IME education and career preparation. A student who completes a total of 6 months of co-op can choose to write a technical report and receive a letter grade for 3 credits of IME497, which can be counted toward a technical elective. The guideline for writing a co-op technical report can be obtained from your advisor.
- 7. Advisement and registration procedures
- All students should meet with their advisers for pre-registration and for other academic advisement needs.
Pre-registration:
A student should fill out a trial card prior to meeting with his/her adviser for pre-registration advisement. Once the trial card is approved by the adviser, the student should attempt to register through the ALFI telephone registration system. All freshmen must meet with their adviser for pre-registration advisement.
Drop/Add:
To add or drop courses, a student needs to obtain approval from the adviser using a "Request for Change of Registration" form which can be obtained in the IME office. For adding a class, a "class permit" from the course-offering department is also required. The student is required to submit the form with needed class permits to 110 Ceres Hall to complete the drop/add process.
Substitution form:
If a student has taken a course that may be used as a substitution for a particular course in the curriculum, see your adviser. If the adviser approves the substitution, a "Request to Waive & Substitute Courses" form needs to be completed by the student and adviser and forwarded to the department chair and University for approval.
